Hello, I’m Janelle Coates, optometrist and owner of EyesWest.

The most common question I am asked is “How is your optometry practice different to others?”

Where do I start?

To begin with, we are West-Australian owned, with West-Australian staff. We are all local and involved in our wonderful community here, which means that we are passionate advocates for the South-West - its people, places and businesses.

Since opening in 2011, our primary focus has always been you – your vision – and making your sight the very best it can be. With EyesWest, you won’t see a revolving door of optometrists. I am your optometrist, so you get the continuity of trusted clinical care. When over 80% of what we “take in” about our world is through our eyes, it becomes easy to see why I am extremely passionate about helping you achieve your best sight possible.

Almost half (47%) of Australians have ranked vision loss as their number one health concern, ahead of loss of memory (37%), loss of a limb (7%) and loss of hearing (4%), according to a 2015 survey by Macular Disease Foundation Australia. We give you the confidence to know that your eyes are in good hands.

As a truly independent practice we have access to an amazing selection of eyewear – frames and sunglasses and lens types. As much as many of love shoes and handbags and jewellery, our eyes are what draw the attention of others. Therefore it is important for your eyewear to really complement your appearance and your personality.

I sincerely believe that I have the best job in the world! Since I was sixteen this is what I wanted to do. I was fortunate to have the marks for entry into medical school but I wanted to become an optometrist to dedicate my work to the care of eyes, and also to have a little fun with fashion, another passion of mine. For me it’s all about looking after your most precious sense – your vision – and also helping you look fantastic with it.
